Ribbons on the bridge

Wolfe Tone Bridge over the River Corrib in Galway, Ireland.

Not quite sure what these ribbons are tied to the bridge for, but it seems to be in memory of lost loved ones.

Castle Hill Lighthouse

Built in 1890, the Castle Hill Lighthouse stands watch over the East Passage of Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.  Its construction history shows that even in the 19th century, there was plenty of bureaucracy and personal conflicts (all the details are here). Today it is fully automated, but a short walk from the nearby Castle Hill Inn allows you complete access to the exterior.
