Castle Hill Lighthouse

April 14, 2019

Castle Hill Lighthouse is located in Newport, RI on Narragansett Bay. It was completed in 1890, was automated in 1957, and continues to be in operation.

The lighthouse is built into the cliff and can be reached by a short walk down from the Castle Hill Inn above. It was built on land purchased from “famous naturalist, oceanographer, and zoologist Alexander Agassiz“(1). The Castle Hill Inn belonged to Agassiz.
