Key West Lighthouse

March 22, 2019

Opened in 1848, the Key West Lighthouse was built to replace the one destroyed in a hurricane in 1846. The tower was raised in 1894 due to the growth of trees and buildings on the island. Like many lighthouses, it was no longer needed as time went on and it was decommissioned in 1969. Today it is a museum open to the public for tours.
