New London Ledge Light

March 20, 2019

Ledge Light is a unique structure. Located in Fishers Island Sound at the mouth of the Thames River in New London, it is a three-story, eleven room brick house with the light on top. It looks more like a small home than a lighthouse. Commissioned in 1909 it was continuously occupied by lighthouse keepers until it was fully automated in 1987. (1)

It is now maintained by the Ledge Light Foundation and open for tours during the summer.
