In memory of the Eight Gables Inn

November 30, 2016

Eastern Tennessee has been experiencing significant wildfires and earlier this week they suddenly overtook the tourist town of Gatlinburg on the edge of the Great Smokies Mountain National Park. Fanned by winds of up to 90mph, they quickly overtook a number of buildings.  A quick internet search will turn up hundreds of pictures and videos from the town.

I posted pictures earlier this year on my vacation to Tennessee.  I covered our visit to Memphis and Nashville, but never got around to posting pictures from our visit to Gatlinburg and the Great Smokies. That was our last stop on our road trip.

The hotel we stayed at was a wonderful little property called the Eight Gables Inn. It was our first time there and we really enjoyed it.  It was awful to see on their website that the property was completely destroyed by the fire.  While it appears much of the downtown area was spared, the Eight Gables was nicely located in a more secluded section of town.  Unfortunately, that is one of the areas the fire struck.

My heart goes out to the owners and employees and everyone in Gatlinburg.
