Saying goodbye to the Rock Cats

The New Britain Rock Cats are a AA baseball team located nearby in New Britain, CT. They have been in existence since 1996, and my family has enjoyed many games there. AA baseball is a lot of fun for not a lot of money.  You might very well see a  player or two who will go on to play in the Major Leagues.  For anyone who hasn’t gone, I encourage you to check out a game. (They were affiliated with the Minnesota Twins for most of those years. In 2014, Minnesota broke their ties with them and they switched to the Colorado Rockies).

This season is the last for the Rock Cats and my family took in our last game last evening.  The team has signed a deal to move to Hartford, CT and become the Hartford Yard Goats.  In the increasingly commercial world, they will move from New Britain Stadium to Dunkin’ Donuts Park.  While I am excited to see the new stadium in Hartford and hope it will be both a success for the team and a boost for Hartford, I have to admit to feeling a little sad for the end of the Rock Cats.
