52 in 2014 Challenge: #21: Reach Out [for Donuts!]

May 27, 2014

The Four Tops were certainly not singing about donuts, but I think this donut was saying “..Reach out, Reach out for me…”

iPhone 5 Processed in LR and onOne Perfect Effects

I decided to go with the vintage preset (I used the Holga B&W effect in onOne), because this was an old-school donut.

When I was a kid back in the 70’s, Dunkin Donuts was a big deal for me. Dunkin Donuts started nearby, in Quincy, MA in 1950.  I think we had one in the whole town, and back then they made their own donuts in the stores.  I can remember how excited I was about getting one. They now have over 10,000 stores worldwide, but long ago gave up making the donuts fresh in-store.  In my humble opinion, they aren’t anything like they used to be.

There still remain some local stores that make their own, and make them like I remember. The above shot was taken at Mrs. Murphy’s in Southwick, MA (so small, they don’t even have a proper website), which we ran across while out last weekend.  If you are in that area, I highly recommend them for some good, old-fashioned donuts.  For those in Connecticut, there is Neil’s Donuts in Wallingford.

What’s your favorite donut spot?

  1. B&W certainly brings out the textures.

  2. Once a year we celebrate Fat Tuesday with a paczki from Smurawa’s Polish bakery in Polaski, WI.

    • My hometown had a large Polish population, so I know what a paczki is -and how to pronounce it : )
