Ready for liftoff

February 10, 2014

I’m not a winter person. The older I get, the more I dislike the cold and the snow. So it takes a fair amount of personal motivation for me to get out and take pictures given the cold, snowy weather we have been having here in Connecticut. This past Sunday started off sunny, so I decided to venture out to Wethersfield Cove, where I had been this past fall. Given the cold weather, it is completely frozen over and seems popular with ice fisherman.  I was looking to get some shots of them, but found myself entertained by something I didn’t expect to see – seagulls.  Gulls are really common here, since they follow the river, but I didn’t expect to find them hanging around a frozen pond.  I guess they were feeding off scraps from the ice fisherman or bread thrown by others. They seemed very comfortable with the ice, but it is amusing to watch them slip and slide as they land.

I captured this fellow as he was getting ready for takeoff.
