Playing with some Black Friday software

December 3, 2013

I did a little shopping for myself on Black Friday and picked up onOne Perfect Suite 8 (I’ve had the discontinued Photo Essentials 4 for some time).  I been through some of the online video tutorials and played with it a bit. Tonight was my first chance to take a shot from beginning to end and see what I could do.

It isn’t even the start of winter here, but already I’m thinking about warmer weather! So I found a photo I took years ago of the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas. This was taken with my Canon SD800IS Point and Shoot. The original was good, and I thought I’d see what I could do with Perfect Suite 8.  My initial impressions are very positive.  I like how quickly I was able to do what I wanted.  In a matter of minutes, I erased out a large, distracting pier, enhanced the sky, added a subtle HDR effect, and put the border on.  My only disappointment so far is that it doesn’t seem to have noise reduction, so I took it back into LR for noise reduction and sharpening.

I’m looking forward to working with it more and seeing what else it can do.

I also picked up Photoshop Elements 12 (I was using PSE10) and a Spyder4 Pro for monitor calibration.

Did anyone else do some early Christmas shopping for themselves?

  3. Thanks John & Lois and Tammy!
Tammy – Hope you are enjoying Perfect Suite 8. I had to remove a pier in this photo and the Perfect Eraser did a much better job than the Context-Aware brush in PSE12.
