Not forgetting our Revolutionary War veterans

November 11, 2013

In my prior posts, I showed some of the photos of gravestones from Civil War veterans. The Green Cemetery also has veterans of the Revolutionary War.

The first photo is the gravestone for an Epaphras Stevens, who died on August 13, 1776.  I couldn’t find a battle corresponding to that date (the Battle of Long Island wouldn’t start for another couple of weeks), so I don’t know if he was killed in a skirmish somewhere or a victim of earlier battle or disease. The date of death on the second stone, November 20, 1781, also gives not indication as to the cause of death.

  1. I wonder what stories these veterans could tell.
